The Des Moines Farmers Market Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose sole purpose is a funding mechanism for the sustainability of the Farmers Market. The fund is divided into two entities: the General Operating Fund for the daily operations of the market; and the Endowment Fund whose purpose is to supply funds in perpetuity.

Monies contributed to the Foundation General Operating Fund are tax deductible. This fund includes monies collected through seasonal sponsorships by businesses or individuals, donations through fundraisers, and market donation boxes at the Market.

Monies contributed to the Foundation Endowment Fund are kept intact. Only the earnings (interest) generated can be used for market operations. By making a contribution to this Fund, you give a gift to the community over and over again. These contributions are also tax deductible. Contributions can be made in cash, through your will or by designating the Des Moines Farmers Market as the beneficiary of your life insurance.

The Foundation is actively involved in helping other community service organizations such as the Des Moines Area Food Bank, Sonju Community Garden, the Legacy Foundation, and many youth-orientated groups including Mount Rainier student clubs.

The Des Moines Farmers Market Foundation is administered by the Market Board of Directors in accordance with the organization’s by-laws. Once a year the interest earned on this fund is gifted to the market's operating budget.
